Authorization is the first level, and not many teachers are Certified. To get either you have to pay money, study in Mysore for a certain length of time, have a personal practice of a certain level and return to Mysore regularly. There is no 'teacher training' as we know it in the West, that is, learning how to manage a class, how to deal with problem students or student problems. In Mysore things are, understandably, very 'Indian', and 'teacher training' does not have the refinements that we expect in the West. Basically, anyone can get authorised (and later, Certified) if they pay the money, stay there long enough and so forth. Ability to convey information, ability to make adjustments which don't injure people and ability to make people feel good about their practice are not part of the curriculum in Mysore. The Mysore system works very well for some teachers, but for most it is just part of the process. Most also need to supplement it with other instruction. IMHO.
