Guest guest
hi carolyn, you have clearly never been greeted by a four legged friend. dogs do something that looks exactly like downward dog when they get up to stretch out. and i once had a lab who would do downward dog to greet you. i think they do it because it feels good. i'm not an expert, but dogs probably invented the pose : ) there was also an article in yoga journal maybe two issues ago about the hindu perception of dogs. rochelle --- carolynwhitez <carolynwhitez wrote: > hello everyone, > > does anyone know why the pose is called "downward > dog?" > > i have to write an article on dogs and yoga. i have > a very difficult > time finding information i am looking for. > > is it true that thousands of years ago, monks used > to watch animals in > the forests and get inspired for yoga poses? > > any help is appreciated. basically, i'd like to know > how dog poses came > into yoga, which ones and the role of animals in > yoga. > > many thnx in advance for help > > carolyn > > > > > > > Start your day with - Make it your home page! http://www./r/hs
Guest guest
Yoga postures are admittedly drawn from the species of this world whether it be the vrischik asan or matsyasan or garudasan - the eagle, fish, scorpion. they are also based on various other implements man used then such as the bow or the plow. there is even a posture like a new born baby- the balasan. That is why they are sensible they relate to our world. in their astuteness the yogis who inventned/ discovered/ adapted[ to the extent that they are helpful to remedy mankind's ailments they are unparalleled]. In fact adapted is a far better word! they did not blindly copy these postures but each one had a limited and specific target in the body. Thus matsyasan one of the few postures which bends the spinal cord in a direction and way that few other poses do. most of the postures & other exercises in yoga are aimed at deteriorating human body parts such as the spinal cord- the base of many nerve activities without which life is impossible. The more one understands and studies yoga the more demystified it becomes and the more sense it makes when you practice it. I am but a humble practitioner but there are great gurus in the field of yoga. it is afscinating field truly the more you learn the more one wants to know about it and the more you practice it the more benefit you'll get and the more the number of facets one will find. The more sense will it make to you. One thing I'll say do it whether a little or a lot with sincerity & more sense it'll make. This you'll understand when you actually practice it. rochelle keesler <nouvellerochelle wrote: hi carolyn, you have clearly never been greeted by a four legged friend. dogs do something that looks exactly like downward dog when they get up to stretch out. and i once had a lab who would do downward dog to greet you. i think they do it because it feels good. i'm not an expert, but dogs probably invented the pose : ) there was also an article in yoga journal maybe two issues ago about the hindu perception of dogs. rochelle --- carolynwhitez <carolynwhitez wrote: > hello everyone, > > does anyone know why the pose is called "downward > dog?" > > i have to write an article on dogs and yoga. i have > a very difficult > time finding information i am looking for. > > is it true that thousands of years ago, monks used > to watch animals in > the forests and get inspired for yoga poses? > > any help is appreciated. basically, i'd like to know > how dog poses came > into yoga, which ones and the role of animals in > yoga. > > many thnx in advance for help > > carolyn > > > > > > > Start your day with - Make it your home page! http://www./r/hs Yoga clothes Ashtanga yoga mat Ashtanga yoga teacher training Visit your group "ashtangayoga" on the web. ashtanga yoga Nalin FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
