Guest guest
Hi there, It's a "brisk" pacing, getting at full primary in with vinyasas 90 min...the Sun Sals (5a's and 5b's; A's take 1 min and B's take 1 1/2 mins} come in at ~12 1/2 minutes, . The standing sequence should take about 30 minutes....at 45 mins, your in Marichi's....with about 15 minutes left, your in headstand. One things I've realized (duh) is that if you have to explain how to get into or talk about a posture as you go along, don't start your count at "1"...but rather, perhaps, at 3, even 4. There are so many places to lose time, so to speak....the vinyasas often slow up the pacing, often at the balancing postures and the transition to sitting, we find a sweat wiping, or clothes arranging break without even knowing it. I have a difficult time getting full primary (not even full vinyasa) to come in with a good relaxation at 90 min. Hope this is of help....And you know, wear a watch, and omit postures if your running late. That may be sacrilege to some, but it's the reality of teaching Ashtanga yoga. And remember, it's only yoga. Peace and enjoy practice, Jeff in Connecticut
Guest guest
when i teach led primary i usually try to stick with this guideline: 15 min for a's and b's 15-20min for standing poses 35 min for the seated poses (dandasana to setubandasana) 15 min for finishing 5 min for savasana i tend to go over 5 min. and this is how i was taught for my yoga teacher training. it work pretty well and then i know when or if i'm slow or fast. some of the time i need to talk them through bujipidansana, titibasana, kurmasana, garbapindasana, ect... that's when my time is compromised. i'll end up trying to stick to a 15 min time limit on standing poses in those cases. hth, /a On 11/25/05, hopegoose <no_reply> wrote: > > I am trying to get the pacing right for a primary series class that is > suppose to be 90 minutes.
