Guest guest
keep on practicing twists, all kinds of twists (how is your parivrita parsvakonasana?) or you can hold marichiasana c a little longer and really push with your arm into the knee, lenghten the spine and twist in the lombar area, where there is no ribs to obstruct the twist. then, provided that your hips are open enough and you hold half lotus easily, the D will go too. make sure you also open the shoulder of the arm that's reaching behind the body to bind, you have to really reach back to grab the hand ...and don't forget to breath good luck, diana - violetta9 ashtanga yoga Saturday, December 10, 2005 12:31 AM ashtanga yoga marichi D hello everyone. I have been working at binding in Marichiasana D on my own for a year now, to absolutely no avail. I can sort of bind when helped. In your experience, is there a moment when you finally go 'Hurray!' and it happens or do you think there are some bodies that simply cannot do it? Any preparatory poses you can suggest? Any idea of what anatomically is tight or short, etc... Any ideas are sooooo welcome!!! Shanti, Violetta a.. Visit your group "ashtangayoga" on the web. b.. ashtanga yoga c.. Guest guest
Keep it up...Use your inhale to extend your arm as high as possible and a long exhale as you twist first back and then bring your torso forward removing all space between under your arm and your knee....Shanti, Mary
Guest guest
In my experience-- Yes, a huge Hooray moment. But only after a long period say 8 months of Daily (6 days a week, no moon days) practice. Then its like, whats next? Just enjoy the practice. Guest guest
Dear Violetta! >From what I have been told, Marichi D is an advanced pose and you must not despair. If you can sort of bind when helped you are on the right track. I had great difficulties getting into the position and thought that it was impossible for me. After 6 months I managed to get into it with assistance and after that I paused and asked for assistance every time I took a class. After 5-6 months more I was able to bind on my own. It felt super, like a huge step for me personally. I don´t know the anatomic reason but I have had trouble binding in all poses and still in supta kurmasana. I usually blame it on my arms beeing too short but I don´t think that that is the whole answer...I wish you all the best with your practice! /Barbara
