aakranditaM ruditamaahatamaanane vaa

kasyaardramastu hR^idayaM kimataH phalaM vaa.

yasyaa mano dravati yaa jagataaM svatantraa

tasyaastavaamba purataH kathayaami khedam.h ..3..

I wail (akranditaM), shed tears (ruditaM) and beat my face in agony

(aanane aahatam vaa), but whose heart in this world (kasyaH hR^idayaM)

will soften in compassion (aardram), even if it does (athaH), what use

of it any way (phalaM vaa kiM)?

O MOTHER (ambaa), SHE whose heart will melt (yasyaa mano dravati) and

SHE who can direct the universe and its beings independently (jagataaM

svatantra), in front HER, that is YOU (tasyaa tava purataH), I tell my

sorrows (kathayAmi khedaM).

In this verse, shrii diikShita emphasizes that only

jagan maataa can help him and not the people of the

world.

Here some points should be noted. Being an adminstrator and having

served the king, shrI dIkshIta must have witnessed many a sorrowful

tale told before the king without evoking sympathy. Even such extreme cases

as are beyond the scope of a mortal to solve. GOD

is the only independent being, and SHE alone can direct the Universe

according to HER will. Besides that, being the Mother of all, HER

heart will melt quite easily in compassion. The gist of this verse: do not

tell your worries or troubles to others but only to GOD. As the

previous verse mentioned, we tell HER, not because SHE does not

know, but for our own relief. SHE who is karma phala pradA will do

only what is good for us.
