aananda saagara stavaH : Verse 4

paryaakule manasi vaachi pariskhalantyaaM

aavartagarta iva chakShuShi ghuurNamaane |

kaste abhidhAsyati mama taamavasthAM

kaale dayasva kathayaami tavaadhunaiva || 4 ||

O Consort of Lord shiva (shive), when my mind is confused (manasi

paryaakule), speech blurred (vaachi pariskhalantyaaM), and my eyes spin

(chakShuShi ghuurNamaane) like a rapid vortex (aavartagarta iva), who

is going to tell you ( te kaH abhidhaasyati) my state of suffering

(mama taaM avasthaaM) ?. Hence, when I am well and time permits (kaale

adhunaiva) I will plead (tava kathayaami) and please have mercy on me

(dayasva).

During the last moments of one's life, it may not be possible to

pray to GOD and plead for HER grace and mercy due to one's physical

state. Here shrii diikShita describes what all may happen when the life

force is withdrawing itself from the physical body. Hence, he asks

ambaa to take care of him at that time and plead for HER grace right

now, when he is well.

Lord of death may knock one's doors at any time and any age. This

uncertainity is quite fascinating and causes one to wonder (vide

thirukkuraL "nerunal uLanoruvan inRillai enRa perumai udaiththu

ivvulagu+). That being the case, one cannot postpone seeking GOD for

other things. Everything else can wait but one's search for GOD cannot

wait(*). It is better to aquaint one's mind with GOD(#) right now as

one never knows when the pangs of death might take toll on one's

flesh(**).

+ Here vaLLuvar remarks, "Ah he was fine and doing well yesterday,

alas he is no more today!, such is the wonder of this world"

* Quote from shrii paramaha.nsa yogaananda

** Based on a quote from shrii lahiri mahaashaaya

# Original greek tradition used capitals for GOD and GREAT ONES, that

was the one of the purposes of upper case letters in Greek.
