aananda saagara stavaH - Verse 5

bhaktiM karotu nitaraaM surajaati maatre

graamiNa janturiva paurajaneShu lokaH |

anyatra devii bhavadhiiya padaaravindaa-

daakr^iShyamaaNamapi me hR^idaye na yaati || 5 ||

O Divine Mother (devii) Let the world (lokaH) worship to their hearts

content (nitaraaM bhaktiM karotuM) the galaxy of divine beings (surajaati

maatre). It is like the village folks (graamiiNa jantuH) looking at

fashionable city people (paura janeShu) with wonder and

amazement. Even if pulled away by force (aakR^iShyamaaNapi), my heart

(me hR^idayaM) will not go (na yaatii) to others (anyatra) leaving

your lotus feet (bhavadhiiya padaaravindaat).

In this verse shrI diikShita pledges his loyalty to ambaaL. His sense

of observation and humor sparks in his remark of how some ignorant

village folks feel towards city bred fashions (which is true even

today). The idea is pledging loyalty and one pointedness in devotion

towards the supreme being.
