Guest guest
brahmeti shaktiriti bandhavimochaniiti maayaamayiiti madanaantakavallabheti | saptaaSTashabdaparivartanamaatra eva saamarthyamaavahati shaastraparishramo.ayam.h || 11 || In a split form: brahma iti shaktiH iti bandhavimochanii iti maayaamayii iti madanaantakavallabhaa iti | sapta-aShTa shabda parivartana maatra eva saamarthyaM aavahati shaastra parishramaH ayam.h || 11 || In this verse, shrii diikshita make fun of the vanity of mere shaastra jnaanam. Repeating seven or eight words (sapta-aShTa shabda parivartana maatra eva) like, brahman, shakti, one who frees us from bondage (bandha vimochanii), one who as mahAmaya deludes this world (maayaamayii), one who is the consort of shiva who burned manmatha (madana antaka vallabhaa), and so on, one gets the skill to display (saamarthyaM aavahati) the superfical knowledge through the shaastra jnAnam ( shaastra parishramaH ayam.h). The essence of this verse is not to conclude shaastra jnaanam is useless. But it should not be used to twist and roll one's tongue to vain display of knowledge. Instead, it should be put to practice and take the person closer to God. While commenting on the name kalidoShaharaa, shrii shankara says that this kali age is marked by such perverted debates were one twists and distorts the truth to make him appear as winner. Only ambaaL can save us from resorting such things which create disharmony. The second hand knowledge gained from texts which is called parokSha jnana should serve only to enable the aspirant to lead him/her to brahmAnubhava. Otherwise, it is worthless. That is hidden sentiment of this verse. Ravi and Swami Vishwarupananda
