VERSE - 4

 

 

gauriiM vyoma samaana madhyamayutaaM uttu.nga vakShoruhaam

viiNa maJNjula naaLikaanvitakaraaM shankollasat.h kandharaam.h |

laakShaagardaama shobhi paada yugaLaaM koda.nDa subrulataaM

miinakShiiM madhureshvariiM sukhadharaaM shrii paaNDyabaalaaM bhaje ||

gauriiM = (guha + ari) One who dispels darkness

 

vyoma samana = comparable to sky

 

madhyamaayutaaM = one whose middle portion of the body(abdomen)

 

uttu.nga = very high

 

vakShoruhaam = (vakSha + uruhaam) breasts

 

viiNa = the musical instrument viiNa

 

manjulanaaLikaanvitakaraam = manjula(or manjuLa) + naaLika + anvita +

karaam

 

manjula naaLika = melodious tube(referring to hollow stem of

viiNa)

 

anvita = holding

 

karaam = hands

 

shankollasat.h kandharaam = shanka + ullasat + kandharaam

 

shanka = conch

 

ullasat = enthusiastic(full of life)

 

kandharaam = kanTha + dharaam

 

One who bears a neck like that

 

laakShaagardama = laakSha + agaru + daama

 

laakSha = which gives lot of smoke(referring to saambraaNi)

 

agaru = incence

 

daama = garland(like) or row which appears like a garland

 

shobhi = beautified with

 

paada yugaLaam = pair of foot(feet)

 

koda.nDa = kah + danDa

 

kah = who

 

danDa = to punish

 

Meaning the arrow from the bow will ask "whom to punish",

because it can be aimed at anything.

 

koda.nDa = Bow

 

subrUlataaM = one who protects the good

 

miinakshiiM = One who possesses eyes like fish

 

madhureshvariiM = O Ruler of madhura(Madurai)

 

sukhadharaaM = One who bears happiness

 

shrii paaNDyabaalaaM = Child of paaNDya

 

bhaje = I worship you.

 

 

Meaning :

 

One who dispels darkness, whose abdomen is comparable to the

sky, whose breasts are high, One whose hands are with the melodious

musical instrument viiNa, One whose neck is like live conch, One who

has a garland(forming) of saambraaNi and incence around her feet, One

who protects the good with a Bow(or uses the Bow to protect good), One

who possesses eyes like fish, O Ruler of Madhura, One who bears

happiness, O child of PaaNDya, I worship you.
