kaale mahatyanavadhaavapatan.h kadaapi

kvaapyantime januSi ko.api gatiM labheta.

itthaM samarthanavidhiH paramaagamaanaaM

paryaayasuuktividhayaa nayanaM na~narthe ..14..

In a split form:

kaale mahati anavadhau apatan.h kadaapi

kvaapi antime januSi kaH api gatiM labheta.

itthaM samarthana vidhiH param.h aagamaanam.h

paryaaya suukti vidhayaa nayanaM na~narthe ..14..

In the limitless expanse of time (anavadhau mahati kaale) somehow

without falling (apatan.h ) at any time (kadaapi) from the

injuctions of the shaastra-s; in one of the births at the end

(kvaapi antime januShi); someone (kaH api) attains liberation

(gatiM labheta), if it thus (itthaM) attained through injuctions

(samarthana vidhiH) in shastras (aagamaanam), the truth (param)

then can be said in other words (paryaaya suukti vidhayaa), that

it is almost impossible to attain liberation (na~narthe), this

how we are led to conclude (nayanam).

To follow the shaastra-s correctly and attain liberation is a

rare occurence, and dikShita thinks it is almost impossible.

Later, while talking about the point anukuulya varjitam (one of

the angaas of sharaNaagati), again diikshita brings this up in

different way. He asks ambaaL to forgive him on the basis that he

is incapable; even though he has the physical strength and

knowledge to perform the duties (which are pleasing to ambaaL),

lack of the mental strength to live by it is a powerful deterrent

and greater obstacle which is responsible for his errors. That

should be the basis in judging his incapcity :-)).

This should read as anuukulya sankalpam. I am sorry. Since I am

so used in life for following anukuulya varjitam and pratikuulya

sankalpam :-)) :-((, it came in automatically when I typed. So

sad :-((.

anukuulya sankalpam is doing what is ordained by shaastras which

pleases ambaaL. pratikuulya varjitam is staying away from doing

things which are prohibited by shaastra-s. (loose translation by

me).
