Guest guest
sutra 2 commentary (extracts) contd. : premNastu prathamaavasthaa bhaava ityuchyate budhaiH . bhaktirasaamR^itasindhuu [ruupagosvaamii] The initial phase of love(prema) is known as bhaava(emotive state). prema is regarded as the fruition or culmination. Though bhaavabhakti and premabhakti have been distinguished by some, this has not always been so by others. Saint Ekanath (16th cent.), in his commentary on the Bhagavata Purana, 11th skandha (SriKrishna-Uddhava dialogue) has described graphically the eight kinds of indicators (ashhTa-saatvika bhaava) of the state of parama prema: shrikR^ishhNa mhaNe saavadhaana . aikonii nirguNa shravaNa . jyaache chinmaatrii buDe mana . unmajjana ho_U neNe .. chitta chaitanya paDataa miThii . suTataa li~Ngadehaachii gaaThii . netrii ashruu.nchaa puura daaTii . romaa.ncha uThii sarvaa~Ngii .. jiivabhaavaachii dashaa aaTe . anivaara baashhpakaNThii daaTe . kaahii kelyaa shabda na phuTe . puura loTe svedaachaa .. netra jhaale unmiilita . pu.njaaLale jethiiche tetha . vismayaache bharate yeta . vosaNData svaanande .. bhaavaartha: On hearing of Brahman, whose mind dives into It without surfacing; when the mind is in the embrace of Brahman, and the knot of bodily awareness is untied, there is a deluge of tears from the eyes, and all the hairs stand on end; when the feeling of oneself as a separate entity dries up, the throat is choked with secretions, unable to utter any words; and the body is drenched in sweat; the eyes become half-closed, unmoving, overwhelmed by the high tide of the sense of wonder; and bliss spills itself over in all directions. Narada will take up these in suutra 54. [commentary extracts on suutra 2 concluded.] Regards, Sunder ____
