Guest guest
Namaste! Thanks to Madhava and Sunder for enligthening me on the meaning of Nishanta. The story goes that the inscription in the Ramar temple in Madhurantakam was a puzzle for scholars since they did not know the meaning of 'Yanta' and 'Bhanta'. I wonder if Sunder can get it in the Sanskrit dictionary he gave me the URL for. When they approached Maha Periyaval of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, he asked the questioner to remember the alphabets in Sanskrit. It goes 'Ya'. 'Ra' 'La' and 'Pa', 'Pha' 'Bha' 'Ma'. So, the 'anta' (the end) of Ya and hence 'Yanta' is 'RA' 'anta' (the end) of Bha and hence 'Bhanta' is 'MA' 'anta' (the end) of Nisha and hence 'Nishanta' is 'Enlightenement' or 'Destroyer of Evil' and hence 'Yanta Bhanta Nishanta' refers to 'RAMA, the Destroyer of Evil and Provider of Enlightenement' Thanks again for ending my Nisha. By the way, for those who may not have visited the temple in Madhurantakam., I highly recommend it. It is the ONLY temple in which Lord Rama and Goddess Sita are joining hands. It is such an unusual sight that Siva, Brahma and all the devas and devatas are relishing the sight. If you visit, please ask the priest to show the carvings on the back side of the Lord inside the sanctum sanctorum. Hari Om. Guest guest
Namaste, The dictionary meaning of bhAnta is: Entry bhAnta Meaning mfn. ( %{bhAm}?) = %{vajra-rUpa} , having the shape of a thunderbolt , or = %{candra} , the moon VS. (Mahi1dh.) &c. This illustrates one reason why a Teacher(Guru) is necessary to explain spiritual knowledge! A Guru of the stature of Chandrasekharendra Sarasvati has given the clue to this mysterious triad of words that no dictionary will ever be able to reveal. [ yAnta does not appear in this dictionary at all!] Regards, Sunder ----Original Message Follows---- Ramu Thiagarajan <ramut "Madhava K.
