It is actually a >combination of lalitaa and rudra trishatii. > Could you throw some more light on it. How are the nAmAvaLi designed ?. 'hiraNyabAhave namaH'- 'kakArapUpayai namaH' Sri Rudra Trishatti is the only vedic trishatti available. The 8 eight anuvAgas in krishna yagur veda has these 300 names. It's a part of Sri Rudra prashnam. It's interesting to note that the nAmA 'shiva' is housed in the middle anuvAga in the prashnam which is in the middle shAka in the center of the five vedas krishNa yajur vedam. 'shiva nAmam' is treated like a diamond occupying such a pivotal status. As we know lalitA thrishatti is housed in brahmANda purANam, so fusing those two should be a modern effort. But both these two 300 names are held in high esteems and used together. It would not be that proper to combine these two as one is from shruti and has swara and the other being a purANic one has no special way of chanting. (When Ravi was discussing on a question that Ramu raised, he was insisting in getting initiated from a guru even for simple mantras. For those who are not fortunate enough for that, there is one shabdham that is free from all niyamAs or restrictions, that is 'mahAdeva shabdham' according to brahmavaivarta purANa. I don't quite remember the full shloka but the content is, 'In kali brahmaNas can not perform all the rites that are prescribed because it requires 'vivida niyamAs' (different code of conduct that has to be followed). They are not potential enough to carry out those different disciplines. There exist one way void of all principles and restrictions, to chant the name 'mahAdeva'. The shloka denotes it as 'mahA deva shabdham' , ie you need not even have to meditate as chandrakalAdara or virushabAruDa and then chant the name, just the sound is enough.Such is the greatness of shiva nAma. Bhagavatam a total vishNu puraNam speaks of shiva nAma mahimA in the dakshayaGYa skandam. Two names of the lord are so powerful like a vitamin tablet that has the essence of all nutrition you need, its rAma and shivA. Even sitting in a restroom you can chant rAma nAmA. 'suchirvA asuchirvA pavitrovA apvitrovA yasmaret pundarIkaksham....' such is the apAra kAruNya of the lord). ____

It is related in the biography of Shri Ramakrishna that when he was visiting the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi, he saw Shiva giving the moksha-mantra 'Rama' to everyone as they were dying in this moksha-purii. We will be benefitted by having him here. University of Texas at Austin has a good collection of Indian books. My cursory search shows it has the Sanksrit text of brahmanda purana. If your friend is in US, he can obtain it through Inter-Library-Loan. If he is India, Connemara library in Madras has an excellent collection. It has a old-books section which are not checked out (you have to read them there), that has many valuable resources. You can search UTnet catalog from http://dpweb1.dp.utexas.edu/lib/utnetcat/ Also there is something called WorldSearch (is not open to all), you can search many catalogs in the World using it. Using this search only I found the out of print AnandaSagaraStavaH. Is not internet fascinating! If he is unable to get the book, when I have time, I will try to locate it in UT (if available), and send a copy. But it will take time. Here is the URL which lists the book for search "brahmandapurana" http://dpweb1.dp.utexas.edu/lib/utnetcat/utnetcat.wb?search_type=TB&command_text\ =MK+BRAHMANDA+AND+MK+PURANA&prev_search_text=MK+BRAHMANDA+AND+MK+PURANA&next_act\ ion=JUMP&next_brn=000000000&next_other_data=&next_2nd_brn=008970394&last_rec_nbr\ =000000000&loc_display_type=V&program=COMMD In that #2 is very promising UNIFORM TITLE: Puranas.
