Guest guest
aiSvryasya samagraSya veeryaSya yaSasa SriyaH jnAna vairAgyayOscaiva shaNNAM bhaga iteeraNA || The word "Bhaga" is mentioned when there are six qualifications are fulfilled. samagra iSvrya = Abundant prosperity Veeryasya = Valorous yaSas = Fame Sriya = Wealth accumulated naturally (by its own course with out effort) jnAna = Full of knowledge vairaagya = The feeling of renunciation (having equipoise feeling towards good/bad) Anyone who is fully possessing these six qualities is called as "Bhagawan". Feminine gender is "bhagawati". You can't possess anything with out getting it from somebody. She is the omnipotent Mother who can grant any or all of these qualities to the worshipper. Like a human child who takes birth out of the womb takes human form, we all are born out of that divine mothers womb hence we all assumed her form. We all admire her for her power. We beg her for her grace. Being pleased by our prayers she offers us the "Six qualities" which makes us become Bhagawan (which is our original form!) > > Ravi [msr] > Wednesday, March 01, 2000 5:15 AM > shriimaataa > 25. bhagaaraadhya > > > bhaga can indicate Lord shiva. Guest guest
My thanks to Madhava giving verse which lists the 6 qualities associated with bhaga. In fact, I was searching for the verse! The book I had merely mentioned two lists (there is more than one list) of qualities which is implied by bhaga in English. This term "bhaga" comes in (at least) 5 names in this 108 names. bhagapriyaa, bhagaaraadhya, subhagaa, bhagamaalinii and bhagavatii. Fortunately last 4 are in sahasranaama too and I have a commentary to refer for those names. One thing I notice is when the names repeats, or having something in common, the commentators try to give different interpretations. I request other members to come forward and post their understanding of the names. Time spent of contemplating on bhagavati's namaa's are the best spent time. Sometimes, I think hard to write the meaning. For instance, chaaruchandraavadamsinii, it took me a lot of time to understand it. Fortunately SHE guided me to understand it. I hope the list members will keep a watch and correct me when I interpret it wrongly. Thank you. Guest guest
Another sloka that we come across regarding the meaning of Bhagawan: utpattiMca vinASaMca bhootAnAmAgatAM gatiM vEtti vidyAmavidyAMca sa vAcyO bhagawAniti || He who knows truth behind the mystery of creation and destruction of creation; how the beings emerge and where they ultimately go; what is real knowledge and what is ignorance --- is said to be the Bhagawan. > > Ravisankar Mayavaram [miinalochanii] > Thursday, March 02, 2000 5:28 AM > > Re: 25. bhagaaraadhya > > > My thanks to Madhava giving verse which lists the 6 qualities > associated > with bhaga.
