Is is a great thing for you to bestow your grace on me? Is is befitting you (as you are well known for compassion)? O ambaa, you are kaala, you transcend time and rule it (implies that you know me in past, present and future), ruler of heavens (everthing is under your rulership, so none can disobey you), you are endowed will all auspicious qualities and shine as saguNa brahman (compassion is one of them, and cannot ignore even the worst sinner), who has very sweet voice (cannot be harsh to devotees), with all these attributes how can you neglect me? O devii, who has a dark hair which is indeed the dark space (vyomakeshii), mother of three worlds (sthoola, suukshma, and kaaraNa), O supreme ruler and whose true essence is nirguNa, and who bestows life to all and the existence itself, O miina netrii, come quickly and bestow your grace on me. Are you not like a wish fulfilling chintaamaNi to your devotees! Essence of the verse: This kR^iti is intricately linked with the muulamantrAtmaka baala stuti, which worships ambaaL as baala tripura sundari usind the biijaakShara-s aiM, kLiM, and sauH, and also with the fourth verse shrii baalaa vivaraNam of the shakti mahimna stotram. shrii baalaa tripurasundarii who is celebrated in the lalitaa sahasranaama as "bandhuuka kusuma prakhya baalaa liilaavinodinii" is a five year old girl. SHE is interested in games like playing with balls. HER biijaaxara-s are three and SHE is red in color like the bandhuuka flower. Some traditions associate HER with kanyaakumarii and worship HER as baalaa-devii. The form of shrii baala tripurasundarii is meditated as j~naana svaruupa holding japa maala, book in two hands and in the other two showing abhiiti and vara mudra. HER dhyaana shloka is, aruNakiraNa jaalaiH a~njitaa.ashaavakaashaa vidR^ita japa vaTiikaa pustakaa.abhiiti hastaa | itara kara varaaDhyaa pullakalhaara saMstaa nivasatu hR^idi baala nitya kalyaaNa shiilaa || The essence of this verse, muula mantraatmaka baalaa stuti, and fourth verse of shakti mahimna stotram is echoed in the first charaNam of devii miinanetrii kR^iti. The "kalyaaNa shiilaa" of the meditation verse is encountered as "sadguNashiila" in the kriti The bestower of all boons, and the mother of three worlds, shrii baalambika is worshipped by the following verse shakti mahimnaa stotram which meditates on HER form. yaa baalendu divaakaraaximadhuraa yaa raktapadmaasanaa ratnaakalpaviraajitaa~Ngalatikaa puurNenduvaktrojjvalaa | axasraksR^iNi paasha pustaka karaa yaa baalabhaanuprabhaa taaM deviiM tripuraaM hR^idi bhaje.abhiishhTaarthasiddhyai sadaa || Readers can recollect that shrii shyaama shaastri indicated in anupallavi that obtain the abhiishhTaartha siddhi-s one has to worship shrii baalaa tripurasundarii and here in the first charaNam elaborates on HER glories and ruupa laavaNyam. The term "nivE gatiyani" reveals the unshakeable faith and complete dependence on ambaaL He pleads to Mother, " O baala, I have placed my mahaa vishvaasam and depend entirely on you, is it a big thing for you to shower your grace on me! why are you hesitating, come quickly and bestow thy grace on me". In the second half of the first charaNam, he celebrates shrii baalaa tripurasundarii as; kaala, divi raaNi, sadguNa shiila, kiiravaaNi, devii, niila niirada veNii, triloka jananii, maheshvarii, and bhaavanii. and pays his salutation to the first biijaaxara aiM of muulamantraatmaka balaastuti. Likewise in the second and third verses, he offers his worship to the biijaaxara-s kLiim and sauH. The three biijaaxara-s of shrii baalaa tripurasundarii, "aiM kLiiM sauH", are saluted by the first three verses of shrii muulamantraatmaka baala stuti which is echoed by the shaastrigaL in the three charaNam-s of the kriti. The verse from the stuti associated with this charaNam is, ayii aanandavallii amR^itakaratalii aadii shaktii paraayii maaya maayasvaruupii sphaTikamaNimayii maamata~Ngii shaDa~Ngii | GYaanii GYaanasvaruupii nalinaparimalii naada oMkaararuupii yogii yogaasanasthaa bhuvana-vashakarii saundarii aiM namaste || 1 || Through the name maata~Ngii we understand the link to shrii miinaaxii. Tradition associates shrii miinaaxii with raajaa maata~Ngii and SHE is seated in mantriNii piiTha as the queen of haalasyapura (Madurai). SHE is kaalaa who transcends time. shaastrigaL salutes HER with name divi raaNi and divyaambaa, both connected by the term "divi" This term indicates chit-aakaasha and SHE as diviraaNi and divyaamba sports in this chitaakaasham. The term "kiira" means parrot. shrii miinaaxii holds a parrot which recites veda-s, in HER hands and HER voice is atimadhura and auspicious and it is indicated by the name kiiravaNii. There is a link between the term maheshvarii and sadguNashiila. maheshvarii is the consort of mahesvara. Linga puraNa defines maheshvara as "nairguNyo maheshvaraH". The name mahesvarii celebrates HER as nirguNa para brahmam who transcends guNa-s (guNaatiitai) and the same miinaaxii in HER sthuula ruupa as a direct contrast to this name shine with kalyaaNa guNa-s in Madurai as saguNa brahmam. SHE grants all bhoga-s in this life and afterwards moxa, as bhogamoxadaayinii. The name niila niirada veNii reflects the sentiment of the name niilachikura in sahasranaama. HER hair is dark in color like the dark clouds. SHE as vyoma keshii has (dark) space as HER hair. ambaa who is bhava naashinii is worshipped in this charaNa as bhaavani (a name beautifully used in the saundaryalaharii verse bhaavani tvam daase). SHE bestows the power to HER consort bhava to bring about the life to this samsaara prapanchaa. shrii shaastrigaL pays tribute to ambaaL with names which have many valuable meanings explaining HER glories and salutes the biijaaxara aiM. ===== -- Ravi <miinalochanii miinalochanii paashamochanii shive paahi shive paahi http://www.geocities.com/miinalochanii/meenakshi/ Talk to your friends online with Messenger. http://im.
