This temple is in the suburbs of Madhurai. As it a cave temple you have to walk a bit to get to the sanctum. In one of the pillars in the mandapam where the temple elephant is tied, a beautiful sculpture depicting the incident that Ravi narrated is carved in stone. It’s not possible to describe the intricacy and nuance of the sculpture. The compassion and divine nature of the lord even in the form of a pig is so effectively conveyed by the craft’s men. The lord in the form of a pig feeds the eight piglets and looks at them with compassion. It’s worth making a trip just to see this sculpture. Guest guest
SHE is the mother of all. sahasranama praises HER as the mother of all from the lowliest worms to the creator brahma (aabrahmakiiTajananii). By this it is meant that SHE is meant that SHE is both the efficient cause and the material cause of this jagat. A mother loves her children. In fact, she loves the child who is not doing well and knows it needs the most attention. If this is true with the mothers of this world, then what about HER, SHE is the mother all, at all times. SHE loves all equally. In HER view the saint and sinner are alike. Healthy and sick are same. SHE sees the Gold within and not the mud which covers it. HER motherly nature is not limited to human forms. In thiruviLaiyaaDal puuraNam, a pig dies after giving birth to 8 piglets. Seeing their plight, Lord shiva comes as a mother pig and nourishes them. When problems of this world haunts the soul, it is HER lap which offers the safety net and protection. God worshipped in the form of Mother is most conducive one to develop the bhakti. But SHE can be worshipped as our Father, Mother, and eternal friend. Glory, glory, glory To thee our Mother In thy great presence The sinners and saints Rejoice together The rich and the poor The healthy and the sick The noble and the lowly Are alike in thy eyes As your own Self Thy love is for all O Immortal bliss! When we receive that love It nourishes our souls And makes us pure We are thy Self indeed Yet we play this duality game To love each other And rejoice together.
