HER neck is smooth like the surface of a conch. kambu also means 3 lines which when formed on the neck is very auspicious. SHE has this mark. In his commentary, shriii shankara says: kambu shabdena atra shankha nishhTa rekhatrayaM laxyate, tadvaankaNTho yasyaH seti tatha guNanaamamedam.h | AUM kambukaNThyai namaH || That is, the term kambu here denotes the three lines on the conch and HER neck has this mark (which is auspicious).
