miinaaxii stotra maala - A treasure

On Monday I was in University of Texas at Austin library with a

strict curfew imposed on myself that I will not go near religious

books section at all (as hours pass by there like minutes). Last

half an hour of the day failed me and went to look at kaamaxii

suprabhaatam (there is a Tamil translation). By chance, the next

book was miinaaxii stotra maala. This book revealed the strong

shR^ingeri bhakti towards shrii miinaaxii.

 

This works has 6 stotra-s. Of which readers here () have

seen three already (miinaaxii pancharatnam, miinaaxii stotram

both by shankara and miinaaxii navaratnamaala- author unknown).

The other three carry the same title shrii miinaaxii stuti.

First one is by shrii sachchidananda bharati swamigaL who lived

in 17th century. And other two by shrii chandrasekhara bharati

swamigaL. Unfortunately only 30 verses of the 120 composed by

shrii sachchidananda bharati swamigaL is available and the rest

were lost to the onslaught of time.

 

Best thing about this book it is compiled by R. Krishnaswamy Iyer

and he has provided a detailed translation Tamil (what more can I

ask for). That book also mentions about another work called

shrii miinaaxii shatakam by shrii sachchidananda bharati

swamigaL. My next task is to hunt for this work. In another few

months I will serialize these works here.

 

Incidentally shrii sachchidananda bharati swamigaL visited

madurai after the temple renovation done under the guidance of

shrii niilakaNTha diikshita (aananda sagara stavaH) during

thirumalai nayyaka's period.

 

Also the there are some errors in the miinaaxii navaratnamaala

stotram which I sent to the list with translation. We got the

original from my friend and she wrote it from what she had

memorized. We had to correct the text based on our limited

understanding. One key word "shukadharaaM" was mis-typed as

sukhadharaM. Instead of saying SHE bears a parrot. The mistake

led to the translation "one who bears joy or one who is the

embodiment of bliss". Even though this also true, the original

however mentions only SHE who bears a parrot (shuka-dharaam). I

will correct this when time permits. Author this work is not

known. RKI thinks that it must one of the achaarya-s in the

shringeri maTha.
