Guest guest
namaste, Here is a discourse by Sw. Sivananda: http://www.sivanandadlshq.org/religions/navaratri.htm It may not answer all the specifics of the questions, but gives an authoritative narrative of how it is done at that Ashrama. Guest guest
NAamaste, I am telling of a practice which is followed in the Sringeri Mutt during Navarathri Celebrations. This method is also used by many people who recite Sapthashathi. According to the sutra PAATHOYAM VIPRAKARAHA Sapthashathi can be recited over a period of seven times, chanting 1, 2,1,4,2,1 and 2 adhyayas, in their respective order. The sankalpam is done accordingly, mentioning Saptadina paryantam sapthashathi patanam cha karishye.... etc The kavacha, argala , keelaka, nyasas etc are done only once. Daily one is to recite the respective adhyayas, after a short pooja and sankalpa of that adhyaya. It is concluded just like the normal way, with rahasya traya etc.. on the last day. However it is to be noted that, a lamp, which is consecrated on the first day, should be kept glowing till the end of the sevnth day, continuously. In case the lamp is extinguished then, prayaschitta mantras are to be followed. The Navarathri Durbar at Sringeri is held, amidst the Sapthashathi chanting in the above manner. Guest guest
Yes it seems practically impossible for chanting Saptashati in one go... But what are we doing here? We are worshiping our divine mother who is the embodiment of power. Her grace can move the mountains which are lying hurdles in our path. I would say "compromise on any thing in this world, but do not compromise with the sadhana, with the relationship that you develop with your divine parents.. Shiva and Parvati..." Let there be no doubt that the mother who is bestowing all the energy which we posses, deserves all our praises in return... not that she wants them, but like a mother who likes her small toddlers come running to her and play with her, mother Parvati also likes to see her children calling her name... There are two ways of performing Saptashati: (1. Satvic 2. Rajasic) 1. Find out what you want out of the adoration. You just want to praise the mother then do Saptashati in one go.. How ever practically impossible it may be, make it possible. After all she made this world possible for us! RESULT: I am told that the people who do Saptashati in one go, are bestowed with enormous joy because Mother herself will take care of those devotees personally.... What else we require when we are walking behind our beloved mother in her shadow... She can see perils even before us, she can take care of all our needs. It is true.. Just "Surrender and see...." 2. You want some thing out of the Saptashati? Desire is very much allowed in Shakti worship. You can perform puja in steps, one at a day. You have to do with Amganyasas and Karanyas. Highly concentrate while doing this.. No mistakes are allowed. And also I have seen trntriks, offering rice morsels drenched in kumkuma (red color) after performing the nyasas. They told me that it is a butabali. RESULT: Her commanders like Varahi, bhadra, bagala --- will take care of your work. You are not let down, she will send her assistants to see that your work is done. This is classified as Rajasic worship. Kings are allowed to seek her blessings through this way. Guest guest
I notice that people find Sapthashathi almost impossible to be recited in Full. Please note that this occurs only in the initial stages where people are not fluent with sanskrit , more so with the 700 shlokas. The whole of sapthashathi, with only 2 nyasas, as ekadasha nyasa has been defined as Krutha krutam, takes a maximum of 2 and a quarter hour. I am sure everyone will agree with me, that we can spare that much time, atleast one day in a month. hariom gp
