A garland of gaayatri

Normally we have few situations in which we have to count 108.

Especially when doing gaayatrii jaapam. Last year or so I came up

with an interesting method. I memorized shrii miinaaxii

ashhTottara. Then instead of counting gaayatri. One can say

AUM maata~Ngyai namaH

and then chant one gaayatri. One can imagine that we are offering

a flower of gaayatrii to ambaaL.

AUM vijaayai namaH

then a gaayatrii.

and so on. At the end one will feel (s)he has offered a garland

of 108 gaayatrii-s to her/his ishhTa devata. This method will not

have any corresponding physical movement like movement of fingers

(only the movement of mind as one chants the name and then

gaayatrii. Probably this is more like a maanasika puuja than

mediatation. But I find it very pleasant and happy when I do

this with concentration. (But mind always jumps like a monkey

from one thing to another). I am seriously thinking of

sahasranaama (lalita) for the gaayatri jaapam (after upaakarma) .

But only thing (i do not know it completely in memory, even

though I know major parts) I have to use a book and also it will

take an hour or so extra. Also then it wont be like a meditation,

but like a puuja.

This idea is not unique. Later I found many others follow a

similar technique. So I can not patent it :-))
