Guest guest
Dear Bala, Your question on how to observe the navarAtri traditionally, brings humility to my mind. I really do not observe anything formally during this period except doing sarasvatI puuja. Nor do I know the answer why it is called navarAtri instead of navadinam or something like that. More than that, when I think of how much time I waste every day without my thoughts flowing towards bhagavatI? I realize I am squandering my life away. How long should one fall in this bottomless pit before rising up again? AUM shrImAtre namaH Ravi
Guest guest
Ravi, No you are NOT squandering your life.. no one who repeats Mother's name even once will be lost .. i do think that during the NavaRatri the night pujas are special- it is supposed to be an especial time to destroy negative tendencies and staying up late thinking of Her is great. Ammachi also says that meditation during the night is very special and that sadhaks love the night time. when everyone is asleep , the sadhak stays up late crying to Her . but i wouldf very much appreciate input from you all about Navaratri worship-and worship during these nights rather than days. bala >"Ravisankar S. Guest guest
Namaskaram, Though the specific doubt of Sri Bala is not clarified, i would like to point out the following article on Navaratri http://www.sivanandadlshq.org/religions/navaratri.htm Regards, Sridhar. , "Balakrishnan Shankar" <balakrishnan_sh@h...> wrote: > > Ravi, > > Ammachi also says that meditation during the night is very special > > but i wouldf very much appreciate input from you all about Navaratri > worship-and worship during these nights rather than days. > > bala
Guest guest
> > http://www.sivanandadlshq.org/religions/navaratri.htm > A web search with "navaratri" gave me many interesting sites last evening. Some of them were very informative and included a good description of vasanta navarAtri as well. Ravi
Guest guest
This was sent to me, it was intended to be sent to the list. Regards, Sridhar. ------------- Begin Forwarded Message ------------- kaushik Sat, 30 Sep 2000 15:15:55 +0530 (GMT+05:30) Dear Mr.Ravi and Mr.Bala, i am happy to see ur anxieties to know about traditional worshipping of Devi during Navarathri . Generally this worship is done as per Guru's instructions and their parampara's proceedures for the disciples who had poorna diksha. For ur information i do this twice every year (during sarada and vasantha navrathri days).By Mother's grace my son also is initiated and does this traditional upasana.i would say we r simply blessed. After Mahalaya ammavasya, on the first day ie prathamai,we install three kalasams (one for each devatha viz. mahavarahi, mathangi and lalitha) after doing ganapathi homa and pooja.the kalasams are filled with water collected from all sacred rivers and ocean pada man(tamil), man means sand and oushadies (herbs) as per the equivalent manthra each akshara represents a particular herb.saffron, pacha karpuram, jewels navarathnas are also added and certain times even the idols, srichakra or Meru saligram etc., concerned panchayathana poojas stones are also put into kalasams.they r then decorated. All these nine days navavarna pooja, special homas like vanchakalpam, srividya, varahi, mathangi etc., as per convenience are done Bala, vatuka, suvasini poojas are must. We do sapthasathi paraynams and chandi homa; especially varahi pooja and homams r performed during the nights.as u said pooja for durga during night is verymuch enjoyable since the calmness during that time keeps the mind very peaceful.we also do praynams like nama, natha, ghatika, nitya, hamsa etc totally 36 kinds of parayanams.on dasami day we do visarjana direct feeding of suvasinies ie when we do nyvadyam for the deities with all 16 upacharas, then we take the abhisheka with the water of kalasams.since we do avahana of our atma on the kalasams we do not move about ie not leaving the premises for these days once you tie ur kankana. we also do not do the reavahana of the devathas into hridayakamalam during the nine days.once the water is poured on our head on the tenthday.ie the deities is directly merged with the athma. Oh it is marvellous. As regards navarathri, i feel like this ie my personal opinion.normally western people count the day from midnight.but hindus do not follow that. their days begin from sunrise .it is from sunrise to sunrise.that means a night is included.to differentiate this that day means one day and one night.therefore it is specifically called navarathri. generally even to visit a place of pilgrimage they say that we should stay in the night. i think this is enough for the present krishnamoorthy ------------- End Forwarded Message -------------
