Guest guest
This name occurs in sahasranAma. AUM kAmakoTikAyai namaH Salutations to HER in whom Lord shiva is a part. bhAskararAya writes: kAmaH parashiva eva koTiH ekadesho yasyAH saiva kAmakoTikA | shiva shakti sAmarasya parabrahma rUpatvAt.h || kama here denotes parashiva and koTi means a part or portion. That is shiva is part of HER and SHE includes him and greater than that. Because SHE is the parabrahman in which shiva-shakti aikyam is established. Since ambaL shines there in this form, that pITham is called kAmakoTi pItham. -- It is ekAmreshvara. eka+Amra+ Ishvara. Tradition says that here devI meditated on the Lord in form of a linga under a mango (Amra) tree. It is a sanskrit name. In Tamil, writing Amram does not sound correct. Hence it becomes Ambaram and ekAmbareshvarar. Normally when "m" occurs in between as a halant, next letter will be a ba variation. Like tambi, ambujam, ambuli, etc. The exception probably is if the next letter is a ma variation. Like ammA, thummal, etc. Interestingly, in Skt, it is ambA and not ammA. So we can say mInAxI ambaaL or ammaL. in this case, tamil tradition uses ambAL for god and ammAL for human beings. For instance, my mother's name is meenakshi ammAL, but my true Mother's name is mInAxI ambAL (or amman). These days people skip the term ammAL while referring the elderly ladies. I remember distinctly that my grandmother was always referred to as lakshmi ammaL. (enough deviation). This is my understanding. I may be wrong (about the Tamil part). -- One important thing for ambaa.org is we should get the sthala puraNams of different ambaaL temples. ===== ambaaL daasan Ravi sharaNAgata raxakI nivEyani sadA ninnu nammiti mInAxI http://www.ambaa.org/ http://www.advaita-vedanta.org Auctions - Buy the things you want at great prices. http://auctions./
