Guest guest
dear group members , I am new to your group and probably my introduction might have been send to all memebers by the moderators.I am getting the mails posted to this group and mostly the discussion is about the concept of guru and the insistence that a guru must initiate inorder that we perform some of the devi poojas such as sapthasati parayana. But my humble question is about the concept of guru itself.many people seem to think that only a human being can be a guru ,but is it true? + with most of the traditional gurus being people of a particular community who guard these upaasana know-hows with utmost secrecy,i am feeling discouraged as i get the feeling that low castes will never get initiated.OR is there a way out? Almost always this guru concept is brought out to discourage rather than encourage. Guest guest
Shri Vidya peethadhipathi Shri Vidya Gurave namah. Shri mahAganapathaye namah. Shri Maatre namah. ------------------ Every school of Hindu thought has certain criteria for recognizing personal attributes of a Shishya before the path of Ultimate Knowledge is imparted. This has nothing to do with caste or any other physical or man-made quality. Anyone can "qualify" to receive this initiation. So, how to "qualify" is the question. Since some members have posted some of Lord Krishna's words, I was inspired to look up the Bhagavad Gita, to find a passage that I once heard in a discourse, some time ago, and by the Grace of the Guru Naatha and by Shri MahAthripurasundari's grace, I found it. In Chapter 18, Verse 67 - Lord Krishna tells Arjuna about the imparting of Knowledge of the Self ... "idam te nAtapaskAya nABHaktAya kadAchana na vAshushRUSHavAchya.m na cha mA.m yOBHyasUyati" {This is never to be spoken by thee, (O Arjuna), to one who is devoid of austerities of devotion, nor to one who does not render service or who does not desire to listen, nor to one who is aBHyasUtI towards Me. (aBHyasUtI - cavils, splits hairs, does not believe in, be picky about, be envious of)}. Exactly the same concept is expressed in the Devi atharvashIrsham and Ganapathy atharvashIrsham. "idam atharva shIrsham ashishyAya ne dEyam". (Do not impart this to those who are not Shishyas (students)). Literally, this means "Do not impart AtharvashIrshm to non-shishyas". On a more spiritual plane, this means "Do not impart this to one who does not have the qualities of a Shishya". So, for a start, let us be devoted, let us have a service-oriented outlook, let us listen and learn and let us not speak ill of mAtA (or Lord Krishna), or be too picky. Rest assured that JagadambA will jump to embrace you in a way that you can see for yourself, because She is "avyAja karuNA" - Honest (guileless) compassion. Shree mahAthirpurasundaryai namah. Guest guest
Om Gurubyo Namaha Om Mathre Namaha Every one is eligible to qualify for devi upasana. It is mentioned in Tantra Raja about the Guru and Sishya lakshana. i would have reproduced it. but i am unable to post it in english. it is in sanskrit. i do not know how to post it.what is required is sincerity with bhakthi and unshakable faith in guru. once chosen follow him. devi would definitely guide u whatever may be the qualities of guru. it is essential that guru is an experienced upasaka in the cult.it is my humble opinion that he should be human being (Male or Female preferably couple but not a napumsaka) Study his guru parampara and select. There are exceptions like Ramana Maharishi Once when i was a child i accompanied my father to see him.He was in mouna(silent) An old man came and asked him who is ur guru.he kept quient after sometime another old man came with palmleaves bundled in a cloth. Ramana asked him to open it. It was sthalapuranam of Arunachaleswara. The very first stanza said that I(Lord Arunachaleswara) am the guru for all who are within my some specified distance of radius. Such is the power of that Holy man who was Dakshinamurthy himself.who has got such authoritative command like Him.? There is no caste creed or religion for mother worship. Sir John Woodroffe is such a one He was a pure christian at the same time a mother devotee. His guru is a Bengalee. He had done tremendous service to this cult. So, my dear Biji Prathap u would get a guru do not worry Mother always is very kind and ready to lift us.Increase ur bhakthi. Be sincere in ur attempt.Develop an impeccable character do not lose ur heart. a light can only lit another light. urs krishnamoorthy ------biji prathap <bijiprathap wrote:------ >dear group members , I am new to your group and probably my introduction might have been send to all memebers by the moderators.I am getting the mails posted to this group and mostly the discussion is about the concept of guru and the insistence that a guru must initiate inorder that we perform some of the devi poojas such as sapthasati parayana.
