Guest guest
aum himAcala mahAvamsha pAvanAyai namo namaH One who has made pure the Himachala Maha Vamsa by taking birth in that dynasty. She is born as daughter of Himavanta, the king of mountains. Hence she is also known as Parvata Raaja Kumaari (or Paarvatii Devi). She attains Shiva again by doing penance in that birth. I may be wrong in my interpretation. Vamsha means lineage. mahaa vamsha means great lineage. Paavanaa means purifier, one who purifies. Some mythological background may help here. In an earlier incarnation, she was called DaakshhaayaNI - the daughter of Dakshha, and married to Shiava. Once she went to a yaJna being performed by her father -- uninvited. There she was insulted badly by Dakshha who bore an eternal grudge against Shiva. Unable to stomach the insults she jumped into the fire and sacrificed herself. That earned her the epithet of Sati. She then took birth as the daughter of Himavan (the personification of the Himaalaya Mountain) in order to attain Shiva as her husband again. Parvata means a mountain, so she is called Paarvati, Giri-jaa, Adri-sutaa, himagiri-tanayaa, etc. all of which mean daughter of the mountain. She got the name Uma also in this incarnation. Being born into the great lineage of the King of mountains, she is said to have purified that lineage. ' Purifying ', here may be taken to mean 'enhancing the prestige of ' . AUM, salutations to She who enhances the prestige of the great lineage of the Snow Mountain. Salutations again. V.M.Sundaram. > > >
