It's utsav season of temples in kerala.And tommorrow

is pooram nakshtra(star) of the kumbha month.And is

very important for the festivals and celebrations in

all devi temples.In Trivandrum we have the now famous

ATTUKAL DEVI temple where the annual pongal takes

place.In this pongal believers(only ladies are allowed

for pongal by the way) from all over the state come

over to the temple premises and cook pongal payasam(a

sweet made of rice and brown sugar), mandapotte,

therali etc and thus pay homage to the the powerful

and great devi residing in the ATTUKAL temple.It is a

huge festival with an estimated 12 LAKH pongals to be

done this year on this day alone.All the more

significant is the fact that tommorrow is FULL MOON

thus enhancing the punya of the whole process.The

temple authorities hire a helicopter for the purpose

of spraying the holy water on the pongal pots inorder

to sanctify the pongals to prasada.That is the

magnitude of the festival.The number miracles and

blessings which the devi has given to her devotees are

so much that every year the number dedicated to her

keeps increasing.

This number of the people gathering here for

the pongal causes it to be world record and people

irrespective of religion and caste join the

pongal.THis powerful devi ,our ATTUKAL AMMACHI has a

bhava much similar to the words about DEVI described

in the DEVI KAVACHA which is "

 

" MAHABALE!!MAHOTSAHE!!MAHABHAYAVINASINI!!

TRAHIMAAM DEVI DUSHPREKSHYA!!SHATRUNAAM

BHAYAVARDHINI!!!"

 

(most powerful!most energetic!destroyer of the

greatest fear(ie. deAth)!!

the one who is not to be seen --save us!

the one who increases the fear of the evil forces or

enemies!!)

Yes the form of the devi in ATTUKAAL is so fearsome

that people are given darshan of an external covering

in the form of devi.

ATTUKAL!
