shiva-shakti dvadasha nAma -1

This is another request for joint effort. Recently Satish posted 12

names of shiva. I request the members to contemplate and come-up with

equivalent names for ambaaL so that we can worship shiva-shakti

svarUpam together.

 

1) AUM mahAdevAya namaH

 

Corresponding ambaaL's names could be

 

1 a) AUM mahAdevyai namaH

1 b) AUM mahato devasya patnyai namaH

 

I request:

 

i) The members to contemplate on the meanings of these nAma-s and

ii) Come up with better alternatives.

 

After we see how well this joint effort goes, we can take up the shiva

108 names, probably 1008 names later.

mahAdeva shabdaM

 

Some time back Aravind Krishna was kind to send me cassette with lecture on

bhagavatam. In that while emphasizing the greatness of nAma sa.nkIrtanam, the

upanyAsakar referred to brahmavaivarta purANam on greatness of shiva nAma. It

says that it is difficult to follow many aspects of dharma beacuse of

complexity of niyama-s. But for nAma sa.nkIrtanam there is none. When one

utters the word mahAdeva, one does not have visualize the lord as chandra

kalAdharan and vR^iShabaruDhan, just the shabda mahAdeva will confer the

devotee all good things.

 

In this yuga, dharma and achAra are difficult to follow as defined by shruti

and smR^iti. shiShTaacharam is pretty confusing as each person says a

different thing, chanting the name of shiva-shakti is the easiset way. Let

our dharma be constantly remembering shiva-shakti and our Achara be doing

their nAma sa.nkIrtanam.
