V.17 Gentle Maiden! You share a half of Lord who kicked off Yama for a boy's sake! We have your Feet to pray to! We have your glance of Grace that abrogates our karmic bondages.. Mother! Whom else do we have other than You to console us in this world? (none). Notes: Komala = gentle, soft Lord Siva in one of his Lila's, came to the rescue of a prodigal boy Markandeya, who was His ardent devotee. Markandeya was destined to be dead when he was 16. At the ordained moment, he was in the middle of his regular Siva Puja. Moved by his Shiva Bhakti, the benevolent Lord appeared on the scene and kicked off duty-conscious Yamaraja, the God of Death. Markandeya was immortalised as a chiranjeevi, highlighting the glory of shiva bhakti. The poet describes this incident to highlight the glory of the Mother's spouse.
