V.23

Ambike! Gem of Malayathwaja Pandya!

Luminous, mother of Ganesha and Khanda!

I pray to you daily for the

annihilation of my penury of heart, as happens

to grime on copper!

Tumbi+mukattan = one with elephant face,Ganesha

Meenakshi has been described as Pandiyakumari in literature and folklore (as in

V.24). Pandiyas

were one of the oldest Tamil kings. There is even a ref. to a Pandiya king

offering his fighters' service during Mahabharatha War. The legend goes that

Mother is born as Meenakshi to a pandya king, Malayadwaja pandya and succeeds

him to Madurai's throne, pines for the Lord, conqueres the

lands and later gets installed as deity. Like any other stalapurana, legends

etc. it is left to individual's

interpretation.

Verse 24:

vENTuvatu u^n tirume^nmalart tAL iNai vempiRavi

tANTuvataRkut ta^nippuNai vERu Etu tAraNiyil

pANTiyavallie^na vanta mUlap parAparaiyE

kANtaku a~NkayaRkaNNi chokkEchari^n kAmi^niyE

V.24:

You are the Primordial Godhead

that came to the world as pandian's daughter!

Angayarkanni, all worthy of Darshan!

Beloved of Chokkesa !

I pray only to your soft flowers of feet!

What else is the boat, to cross

this horrible livelihood!

Chokka = Handsome guy, Deity of Madurai
