Why do we call HER shivaa? Commentary for this naama runs long in

saubhaagyabhaaskara. I am planning to go over it slowly and one by one

on the meanings.

- In nut shell SHE is called shivaa because SHE is non-different from

Lord shiva. And it is supported by quotes from liN^ga puraaNa.

.... shiva abhedaa vaa shivaa | tat.h abhedhasya pravR^itti nivR^ittitaa

cha linga puraaNe darshitaa | "yathaa shivastathaa devii yathaa devii

tathaa shivaH | tasmaadabhedabuddhyaiva shiveti kathayantyumaam.h" iti

| tatraiva sthalaantare | "umaasha.nkarayorbhedo nastyeva

paramaarthataH | dvidhaasau ruupamaasthaaya sthitaH eko na saMshayaH"

iti | paramaatma shivaH proktaH shivaa saiva prakiirtiite iti | ...

Hi,

Shiva and Parvati are extremely evolved cosmic beings. They have long

integrated their dualites to become twinrays or consorts. They are

not husband and wife but consorts. They are non-separable. They are

just a form of integrated cosmic energy. So to us humans, they look

male as shiva when we tap into their masculine divine attributes and

female as uma when we tap into their feminine divine attributes. But

from the higher realms, the are ONE, and hence we call HER shivaa.

Namaste.
