Probably depending on where you are, aashaaDa navaratri may start today (21st) or tomorrow. By the panchanga perl script I have, aashaaDa maasa started (approximately) at 10:30 am CDT (9:00 am local time, austin is 97.7W )*. It is already prathama here. Actually we have member here, www.geocities.com/SanjayPrabhakaran/ who has some java applets on his page which gives sun rise etc. and also has a calculator for planetary positions, I hope he will find time to create an accurate online panchanga. I am no expert in these matters. So I may be wrong. Regarding Priya's question on the significance of this festival. My view is, for this and any festival: Most men and women are so busy with their worldly pursuits, we lose track of God and we are lost in the world. By having some special days, at least some may be nudged out their schdule to undertake spiritual effort. Such as, now is navaraatri at least for these 9 days I will say trishati in the morning and evening. Such efforts even though small to start with create good habits and tendencies which eventually become strong. Besides, millions of men and women doing this (esp. in India) create a harmony of vibration even in a greater scale, which is beneficial. I should not forget to add that the wonderful delicacies that are cooked during these festival days, even though not beneficial to health, are quite pleasing to the tongue :-)) Ravi All times local, CDT is off by ~ 1:30 hrs for Austin (97.7w, as CST is based on 90W) =============================================================================== Pancanga based on the Suryasiddhanta Day requested = AD 2001 6 21 JD (at noon) = 2452082 Thursday Local latitude = 30.3 Requested time = 9h:01m =============================================================================== Nirayana True Longitude Sun 2s 6d 2' 2" Moon 2s 6d 2' 16" Mercury 1s 23d 59' 37" Venus 0s 22d 7' 37" Mars 7s 23d 23' 36" Jupiter 2s 4d 47' 44" Saturn 1s 8d 29' 0" Candrocca 10s 5d 3' 15" Rahu 2s 16d 37' 4" Local sunrise = 4h 59m ayanamsa = 22d 31m Jovian(North) = jaya(28) Jovian(South) = vRSa(15) Lunar Month = Asadha Paksha = S 1 (fraction = 0.000) Solar masa/day = Mithuna/8 samkranti on = 2001/ 6/14 samkranti at = 23h:25m naksatra = Mrgasira karana = kiMstughna yoga = gaNDa
