Guest guest
This is from the C. M. Brown's book on Devi Gita. Text of devii giita runs from chapters 7.31 to 7.40 in devii bhaagavatam. I was looking at the book few days back (online - NetLibrary via UT Digital Library, almost all books from New York state university press are available online, but you can access only those what your local library or Universiity library has) If one can not chant the entire devii giita, chanting these 9 verses will make up for it. I have the sanskrit verses of this with me, when I get time I will post it. For instance first verse 7.31-48 is mahaalaxmyai cha vidmahe | sarvashaktyai cha dhiimahi | tanno devii prachodayaat || (Following is a cut a paste, vishvarupaji do not archive it on ambaa.org) The gods sing the praises of the supreme Goddess. We know you as Mahalaksmi, we meditate on you as the Sakti of all. May the Goddess inspire that knowledge and meditation of ours. [7.31.48] Hail to her in the form of the Cosmic Body; hail to her in the form of the Cosmic Soul; Hail to her in the Unmanifest State; hail to her in the form of the glorious Brahman. [7.31.49] Through her power of ignorance, she shows herself as the world, like a rope appearing as a serpent, wreath, and the like. Through her power of knowledge, she dissolves the world back into herself. We glorify her, Ruler of the Universe. [7.31.50] The Goddess describes her power known as Maya [Maya is variously called] knowledge, illusion, matter, nature, energy, or the unborn. Those versed in Saiva works call it intelligence. [7.32.9cd-10ab] >From the practical point of view, Maya is regarded as self-evident. In reality, however, it does not exist—only the supreme exists, in an absolute sense. [7.33.2] [The Goddess outlines the basic spiritual practices for realizing the supreme unity of Self, the Goddess, and Brahman.] [My sacred syllable Hrim ] transcends the distinction of "name" and "named," beyond all dualities. It is whole, infinite being, consciousness, and bliss. One should meditate on that reality within the flaming light of consciousness. [7.34.48] Fixing the mind upon me as the Goddess transcending all space and time, One quickly merges with me through realizing the oneness of the soul and Brahman. [7.35.55cd-56ab] Just this Brahman is immortal; in front is Brahman, behind is Brahman, on the right and the left; It extends above and below. The whole universe is just this Brahman, the greatest. Like clarified butter hidden in milk, knowledge dwells in every being; One should stir continuously, using the mind as the churning stick.
