Mother of the world, wife of Siva - the enemy of tripura, whose ornaments are made up of the rays of amrta, protect me - who is under the influence of kaliyuga, with Your eyes which are soft and from which nectar flows. Amrta symbolises immortality and the Goddess is the only person who can give this immortality to men who are suffering because of Kaliyuga. It is said that dharma in the form of a cow stood on all four legs in krta yuga. In treta yuga it was reduced by one part and in the dvAparayuga by yet another portion. Thus in kaliyuga dharma stands on only one leg. So without the compassion of Her one cannot think of crossing this world with all it obstacles and distractions.
