Guest guest
A more poetic explanation to this nAma can be given by Adi Sankara's saundaryalahari. "karALam yat kshevaLam kabalitavata.h kAlakalanA na shambho.h tanmUlam tava janani tATaNkamahima" "If Lord Siva lives, even after consuming the most dangerous poison, then it is not due to Siva's mahima but the greatness of your tATaNka." i.e. the Goddess was destined to wear her earrings so nothing happened to Lord Siva. Hence She is the life of Siva. Aarathi. - Ravisankar S. From few references from trishati and my very little understanding of those reference, there are three ways this name can be understood depending on how shashaanka shekara and praaNa vallabha is interpreted. The less obvious one is "Salutations to HER who is the basis of the life-energy of all beings". shashanka means moon, which indicates amRta and shashanka shekara is one who wears that on the crown. From trishati bhaashhya of kakaara-ruupa, "sarveshhaam praaNinaam shirasya amRtam astu iti ..." this denotes all living beings. Again in trishati bhaashya of kAmeshvara praNa naaDi, shankara quotes from taittiriiya upanishad that praNa does give life but the brahman who stands as a basis of praaNa. Hence praaNa vallabha, is brahman who is the basis of praaNa, hence the beloved or the dear one. Thus this name can mean "SHE is the basis of life-energy of all beings" I dont remember the quote from kAmeshvara prANa naaDi, I will post all the three meanings on Friday. In any case, I have already indicated the key to my understanding of this name. Please correct/comment. Guest guest
If shashA.nka is moon, shashA.nka shekhara is Lord shiva(chandrasekhara).Hence it may mean "Salutations to HER who is dear to Lord Shiva". corrections welcome.
