A mortal who sees the world around himself feels , " one day I shall cease to

exist,

while this world with all its variety will continue to exist after me."

This is not true. The pratyagaatman exists and continues to exist for ever.

It is the

witness of all perishable things like the body, the senses, the mind, etc. A

witness

does not undergo any change, even when that which is witnessed gets modified

or ceases to exist.

Referring to HER as a witness , therefore, does not only mean that SHE

"sees" all,

but emphasises that SHE out-lasts them all , unbound by Time and Space.
