Namaste,

I found these references only. Wondered if other members

have

come across more details.

Kali ("the black one") is the Hindu mother goddess, symbol of

dissolution and destruction. She destroys ignorance, maintains the

world order, and blesses and frees those who strive for the knowledge

of God. In the Vedas the name is associated with Agni, the god of

fire, who had seven flickering tongues of flame, of which

Kali was the black, horrible tongue. This meaning of the word has

meanwhile been replaced by the goddess Kali, the grim consort of

Shiva.

Antiquity of Tantricism

By Chintaharan Chakravarti

The Indian Historical Quarterly

Vol. VI, No.1 March, 1930 pp. 114-126

The general view is that the Tantras originated from the

Saubhagya-kanda of the Atharva-Veda. Some of the Tantra works are

found to record this in definite terms. The Kalikularnava Tantra has

got two lines in the beginning stating "Now Devi says in the Atharvana

Samhita."(4) This in fact identifies this work as an

Atharvana-samhita, thus clearly hinting at the close connection of

the Atharvaveda with this Tantra.
