The 'dvitIya ratna' in 'sarasvatI namavratna maalikaa' set to raga gIrvANI

eulogizes Goddess Sarasvati as the personification of the potency of

creation.

The study of cosmology reveals that this world is an intelligent assembly.

Each and every element in creation has been meticulously integrated to serve

a definite purpose. The more we study the creation the more we appreciate

the knowledge and skill behind creation. Vedas personify this intelligence

and skill of creation as Goddess Sarasvati. The same concept is further

developed in puraaNaa. They portray Sarasvati as the consort of the creator

and the Goddess of knowledge and skill.

The Vedic idea of creation and the attitude of the created beings towards

the creator form the subject matter of this brisk samashTi charaNa kriti.

namo namaste gIrvANI - Repeated salutations to the Goddess of celebrated

speech (gIrvANI).

'vAgeva vishvA bhuvanAni' is the Vedic verse that explains vAk or speech as

the cause of creation. It is often referred as 'Adya stamba'. This ‘Adya

stamba’ disturbs the absolute and results in the universe of names and

forms.

Brahmanas say, ’Prajapati impregnated himself by combining his mind and

speech to create’. This combination of mind and speech indicate the skill

and potency behind creation. Hence ‘vAk’ or ‘vANI’ is celebrated all though

the Vedas as the primary reason for creation.

Dikshitar repeatedly salutes Goddess Sarasvati as ‘shR^iti shakti’ by

referring her as the celebrated speech 'gIr-vANi'.
