umaapati ramaapati vidite.

kumaara guru guha sammudite..

After ascertaining Sarasvati as the personification of creational potency,

Dikshitar salutes her with a Vedantic outlook.

umaapati ramaapati vidhite - She is known by umaapati (parameshvara) and

ramaapati (naaraayaNa).

Creation is not a matter of belief as we are able to perceive it. Perception

needs to be validated by understanding or knowledge. And this knowledge

'sarvam khalu idam brahmaasi' is what is stated as being known (vidite) by

Shiva and Vishnu. As the knower becomes the known 'brahmavid brahmaiva

bhavati', they too are parabrahma svarUpa.

Diksitar refers them as the consorts of uma and rama. uma as

praNavasvarUpiNi is the underlying reality behind the universe and rama as

ramya prakR^iti svarUpiNi is the nature of this universe.

kumaara guru guha sammudite - She is well delighted by the young guruguha.

Sarasvati devi is delighted through enquiry (vichaara) on the reality of

creation. She is delighted by the knower of brahman when he spreads his

knowledge through teaching. guha guru appeared as an young lad (kumara) to

Dikshitar and blessed him with the knowledge of all veda, vedanta and naada

vidhyaa. Dikshitar remembers this with reverence and salutes Sarasvati as

being delighted by the young guru who engages in vedanta tatva bodha.

This concludes the dvitiiya ratna in the navaratana maalikaa series. Below

are the namavaLi summaries,

GIrvANI namo namaste - Repeated salutations to the Goddess of celebrated

speech.

nAdabindu kalA shreNI namo namaste - Repeated salutations to the source of

all multitude manifestations (naada, bindu and kalaa).
