Guest guest
Dear ones Happy New Year. May the Goddess be with us and bless us to see Her. I had been to Ashtalakshmi temple in Chennai. All the idols were smeared only with oil and with no alankArams. On enquiry the priest told me it is called thaila kappu and is done every year in dhanur masa till thuruvona natshaktra. Can any one explain the significance of this? My understanding is that this could be for the maintenance of the basic material of the dol( stone) + a sanctifying period in which some poojas to increase/sustain the power of the idol are done.
