In that pathetic situation it is the Lord who blesses "Don't be frightened, I'm there". The girls who came to worship the Lord, dance there, music instruments like drums reverberate. Frightened that this sound is a thunder some monkeys, climb the trees and look into the sky for clouds. Such a beautiful place is thiruvaiyARu the abode of our Lord ! Notes: This is a marvelous song that gets deep into the heart. The depiction of the "completely lost control" situation and the forthcoming Grace of God is enchanting. The description of the monkeys frightened for a non-existant cause gives a beautiful backdrop. Can you please explain the significance of the above lines in your signature. Regards, Sridhar.
Guest guest
Dear Sridhar, These lines are from a great saint of Karnataka called Basavanna, considered very holy by the vIrashaivas. The shaivite literature written by him and the contemporaries & followers are called vachana sAhitya. Though the vIrashaiva has origins much ahead of Basavanna, he made it a socio-philosophic movement than a pure philosophic one, and tried to build a society of shaivites without caste and sex barriers. The vIrashaivites are quite influenced by the Shaivite saints of Tamil Nadu (as shown by the 63 purAtanaru - periya purANam link etc) and also contirbuted to the Shaivism in Tamil Nadu. You could find some more info on the same at http://www.shaivam.org/kvshaiva.htm (Still lots of more info yet to be added on this topic). In this beautiful hymn, this devotee who dedicated his life for the service of the Lord says that, the service to the Lord should be so selfless that even utturing "I do service to the Lord" is inappropriate !! Hope this answers. namaH shivAya with love, Ganesh ______________________ Message: 3 Wed, 16 Jan 2002 14:23:15 -0000 "ambaal2001" <seshagir Re: Thirumurai Series - 36 > I said I gave my body - became far off from guru's teachings > I said I gave my mind - became far off from the linga > I said I gave my wealth - became far off from the devotees > There is nothing more disasterous than the disaster I got ito > by saying "I did for You", kUDalasangamadEva ! - basavaNNa Dear Ganesh, Unrelated perhaps to the Thirumurai series.
