The root 'vid' means 'to command' or 'to know'. Vedas guide the life of a vaidiika by prescribing actions that are to be done with a specific attitude. These are titled as vidhi. As Sarasvati has eminence in the Vedic domain, she is personified as a vedic damsel. Vedas themselves assume the form of a maiden 'vidhi yuvati' named Sarasvati. murali vINA gAna vinodini - she delights in music accompanied with vINA and veNu (flute). The word 'vinodaya' means to divert or to recreate. Sarasvati is delighted in pleasant music accompanied with vINA and muraLi. vINA is the queen of musical instruments classified under the chordophonic group of instrument and murali comes under aerophonic set of instruments. Sarasvati as veda svarUpiNI delights in sAma gAna accompanied by vINA and muraLi. vINA also denote 'vaidIka shabdha' and muraLI 'laukIka shabdha'. She delights in knowledge articulated with worldly and divine sounds. samvedhini - She is all knowing. The possession of all knowing capability denotes her IshvarI laxaNa. Though the absolute transients all qualities and attributes, she is embodied with innumerable auspicious qualities 'ananta kalyaaNa guNaani' for (prapancha nirvaaha) the creation, sustenance and assimilation of this universe. Her qualities like samvedini, sarvaantaryaamini, sarvasvaamini, sarvasharaNyaa, sarvashakti and so on are to be understood in its own accord as they are divergent from the attributes of a bonded soul (jIvAtmA) and have none that could equal in nature, quality, amount, or form. In fact appreciation of Ishvara guNa is only possible only from the relative impotency of jIvAtmaa. chaaru chandra haasini - Her smile is as elegant as a beautiful moon. A smiling countenance denotes inner joy. Sarasvati being 'paramaananda svarUpiNI' reflects her true nature with a moon like beautiful smile. Her charming face radiates with a blissful smile. The 'ashTottara shatanamaavali' salutes her radiant face in the namavali OM shvetaananaayai namaH and OM chandravadanaayai namaH. sarasIruha lochani - Her eyes are resplendent lotuses OM padmalochanaayai namaH, OM padmavaktrakaayai namaH, OM padmaaxyai namaH and OM padmanilayaayai namaH are the namavali-s that associate her with the lotus flower. Unlike the lotus flower that blossoms when darkness vanishes, her ever bloom lotus eyes raises (GYAna sUrya) the sun of knowledge that dissolves the darkness of ignorance (aGYAna). A popular shloka addresses the broad lotus eyes of Sarasvati and pleads for knowledge. sarasvati mahaabhaage vidye kamalalochane . vidyaaruupe vishaalaakshi vidyaaM dehi namostu te .. The word vidhi means rule or injunction, besides it also means creator brahma. In this context, latter seems appropriate - that is - brahma's lady or beloved. Of course, you can connect vidhi and veda-s as the vidhi-s for vaidiika karma is found in veda-s (in samhita-s and brahmaNa-s) My 2c. My intention was to participate in a discussion than to point an error. Sometimes, in a list like this, when posts are just one-way, we all lose. The word vidhi - brings to mind - the verse "vidhi maal aRiyaa vimalan putalvA*" from kandar anubhuti which is a work on Lord skanda by Saint ArunagirinAtha. Entire text and translation of this work can be obtained from murugan.org Ravi * vidhi - brahma maal - vishhNu aRiyaa - wo could not know vimalan - one who is devoid of impurity putalava - O son This address skanda as son of the Lord who is taintless and whom brahma and vishhNu could not know (even after a desperate search).
