Dear Ravi,

It was a very nice presentation on our Lord at Thiruvanmiyur. You will be

surprised just ten years back this temple was just sesolate, and we from our

college went and clened the temple premisis. But now things have changed and lot

of devotees started coming to this great Padal perra thalam. One small

correction Mother Thiripura sundari is facing south not west as mentioned by

you. Also this temple is one of the Tyagaraja sthalams of Thodaimandalam, and

our Lord showed His 18 dances to Vanmiki, which is enacted during pankuni

Brahmotsavam, vaikasi vathanthorsavam, karthikai deepam days. Special

abhisekhams are also done to Tyagaraja on full moon days.

A prayer to our father

Following is addressed to our Father, Lord Shiva - enshrined in the

temple situated on the coast of Chennai - in Thiruvanmiyur. It is an

ancient temple boasting over 2000 years of history. And the lord is

known as marundheeshvara or aushhadheeshvara. ambaaL is

tripurasundari.

Corridors of the shiva sannidhi are quite and ancient. Lord faces the

west. Even now, in the crowded and maddening Madras, once you are in

there, you can not but wonder at the sudden change to serenity and

silence. That is best part shiva temples in Tamil Nadu, they are

large and quiet, less crowded.

Following is not a poetry, even though it is formatted like one.

--

Bestow thy benign glance

O Lord of Thiruvanmiyur

Show me thy mercy

And destroy this disease

Thou art the lone healer

That can quell this samsAra

The heat of lust

Dries the love of my heart

And the fire of anger

Scorches my soul

Torn apart by hatred

With greed and delusion

Which fuel to this deadly fire

O Lord of medicine

The only true refuge

Come quickly to cure

And heal this deadly disease

O bearer of the crescent

And thundering ganga

In thy majectic matted locks

Cast thy cooling glance

Wash my dirtly soul

And restore the innate purity

My legs long to walk

In the silent corridor

Of thy ancient shrine

To take refuge in that quietness

And forget the noises of the world

O beloved my mother

Enchanting Tripurasundari

Are you facing west?

To save us who have left

To be lost in the snare of wealth
