Dear and respected member,

some of you are the wisest people on the internet in relation to shiva and the

devi. I am a passive member but today have a question to ask of all of you. You

see by birth I am a brahmin but I come from Fiji and live in Australia. As you

would know we are very far form India. From my grandfather these traditions have

been lost. As a shaiva and a shaktha I intend to follow the shastras. My

question consists of two parts. What are the duties of a Brahmin. I dont have a

white rudraksha but make ado with the brownish ones. I do the Bhasma ritual as

in relation to bhasma jabala upnishad. But there must more obligations. MY other

question is that is there a mantram or siddhi dedicated to either Shiva or

shakthi via which one can fget rid of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, MOha especailly Kama.

Shiva was the incenarator of Kama deva and I wonder if there is any way I could

envoke that form to destroy that characteristic in myself.

I am doing my best but I want to get rid of such thoughts as well.

I aplore your wisdom and await replies in agony.

-- You may check with www.kamakoti.org where HH

ChandraSekharendra Saraswati Swamin speaks about Hindu Dharma.

MY other question is that is there a mantram or siddhi dedicated to

Lobha, MOha especailly Kama.

-- I heard that, Parameshvara in the form to ArdhaNareeshwara

is worshipped to get rid of Kama.

Another mantra is Kartaviryarjuna mantra. Kartavirya - an avatara

of Sudarshana and a Bhakta of Lord Dattatreya.

Am not sure about this- Some where it is written that Chinna

Masta mantra can also be used.

This is also mentioned in the verse "umaiyum umaiyoru bhAganum eka

uruvil ..." of abhiraami antaadi. Which says:

Uma and the one who has Uma has one half -- came in a single form

(that is ardhanAriishvara) and made me devoted to them. Now I have no

other religions to think of ( or get distracted with) and my desires

for women whose shoulders are soft like bamboo will subside"

--

>From what I have heard - six enemies can be overcome by:

a) unconditional surrender and devotion to God and one's guru

b) By methods mentioned in works such as, patantaji's yoga suutra -

vitarka bhaadhane pratipraxa bhavanam and adhyAsa bhAshya of shankara

I still think i am not worthy of using it. There is another way dear

friend. You see the strongest shiva siddhi is the rudre path. if one

does japam of the rudra prasanna 99 times while giving ahoti on the

99 japam being over their inside starts burning but instead of the

organs it is the five demons. I intend to do this on shiva ratri. I

most powerful of siddhis I have been initiated in but the problem is

I cant sit in a padmasna that long.

puraNaa-s are filled with information of RShi-s and asura-s who did

enormous amount tapa-s/yaj~na-s on different devata-s such as, brahma

and shiva. True they did get a lot of powers -- but in vain. Most of

them, at the drop of a hat would turn around curse or fall prey to

lust when a celestial nymh does a little dance. Which implies that

their kama and krodha were still intact. This happened to even great

mahaRShi-s.

>From what I know -- surrender to God and guru is the most efficient

path. This opens up one to grace of God and knowledge. It is through

reasoning and understanding -- then one overcomes lust etc. Darkness

of ignorance is driven away only when light of knowledge comes. For

instance - when one knows/realizes that one is not the body then lust

for another body drops. Knowing and true understanding results from

constant contemplation on these -- which is nidhidhyAsana.

Man's greatest gift is ability to reason -- this is necessary even to

understand and do sharaNagati to God/Guru.

My 2c and last post on this topic.

In any case -- I wish you good luck for your efforts and admire

your devotion to shiva dampati.
