Guest guest
Devi Sharanam Iam a new member to this group.I come form a place near to Chottanikkara where Devi reside as Shree RajaRajeswari. Recently only i started to read the Lalitha Sahasranamam bhashyam in malayalam by Kndiyoor Shastrigal and listen to audio cassettes thru which my spiritual intelligence got satiated. But my question is ,is there any strict rules when we recite it . Also I like to do Gayathry recitation ..can we see Godess Gayathry and lalitha devi as one .I believe like that . For me Lalitha devi is Parabrahmam and Gayathry is a prayer to the parabrahmam. IAm a house wife and not a brahmin . Can I recite Gayathry .If so what are the rules I have to follow? Kindly guide suja Amme sharanam Games - play chess, backgammon, pool and more
Guest guest
1) When you say gAyatrI, there are typically three things associated with it. a) gAyAytrI devatA b) gAyAtrI mantra and c) gAyAtrI chhandas. It is perfectly valid to consider #a as same as Sri Lalita devI. 2) lalita sahasranaama comes in puuraaNa, there no swara-s etc attached to the text. As long as you can pronounce each name correctly that should be fine. There is audio rendering by M.S. Sheela and it is very musical and beautiful. 3) uttara piiThika of lalitAsahasranAma requires the knowledge of shrIvidya to chant the sahasranAma. Some schools hold that it means initiation to shrIvidyA. But going by uttarapiiThika of lalitA trishati, the knowledge could be different (not necessarily initiation to shrIvidya). trishati defines whom it considers as knowers of shrIvidya. kAnchi maTha's view is one should be initiated to shrIvidya or bAlatripurasundari mantra. Not all agree with this. 4) Besides #3, there are no other restrictions on sahasranAma based on gender, varNa, race, etc. It is open to ALL. 5) As for gAyatrI mantra (which is technically called sAvitrI mantra), one is initiated during upanayana ceremony (that step is known as brahmopadesham). Only those who have gone through that can chant/meditate on it. This upanayana ceremony is only there for male dvija-s ( from varNa-s brahmaNa, xattriya, and vaishya). 6) You can worship ambaaL directly without gAyatrI or sahasranAma. Besides there ARE NO RESTRICTIONS in understanding their meaning and contemplating on them. SHE is our mother and it our BIRTHRIGHT to talk to HER. My view is you can directly talk to HER in the language you know and tell what you think and need. 7) Sometimes (for things which have traditional rules) it is better to ask are they obligatory or not. If it is not obligatory, breaking the rules of tradition will incur only sin and will not bring any peace of mind or chitta shuddhi. I hope I did not offend any of your views. In any case, I am not an authority. You should contact Kanchi or Sringeri maTha for the CORRECT view on these matters. You will get the contact info of a) kAnchi from www.kamakoti.org b) sringeri from www.sringeri.org Both of them have the mailing addresses of the respective maTha-s in India. As for as kanchi is concerned, I was told the following a) If you write your letter in Sanskrit, Acharya will personally read and reply your mail. b) Otherwise your letter will read to him (or the essence of the message will be communicated to him) and he will give the answer to the assistant, and the maTha will communicate it to you. I have written to both kAnchi and Sringeri (from US) and have received replies. I wrote my letter in Tamil to kAnchi and in English to Sringeri. I sent both messages by normal air mail. ---- As far as the trinity question is concerned: SHE is the trinity (or the five). Refer to names starting from sRshhTi kartrii -- brahma ruupa to sadashivaa -- anugrahadaa in lalita sahasranAma. Hope this helps. Thanks.
