Guest guest
Om Sri Matre Namah! The explanations are nice and interesting. About 2 years back (on 31st October 2000, if i remember correctly), I was in Tirumala, the sacred Hill abode of Sri Venkateswara (after whom this dasa is named) with a group of freinds, when one of them asked or wondered aloud the same question as "Why are 108 namas there? Why not 100?" And very spontaneously I replied (I would prefer to think that God spoke through this instrument but that too is one type of egoism!), I replied something, which now I would like to sahre with the group. 108 is important because 1 represents The One Supreme Being (call Him or Her or It what you like). 8 represents the Individual or Jeevatma, which has a lower self and a higher self. 0 represents the utter lack of ego or annhilation or sublimation of the ego, which is the veil or wall that separates the Jeevatma from the Paramatma. If you see 8 is represented as two circles sitting one over the other. If the lower and higher sleves merge, the ego dissolves and the Sadhaka becomes a Zero at the feet of the Supreme God! My friends in the group liked the explanation. I don't know whether the same appeals to your intellect and wisdom. Best wishes to all group members. May the Mother protect all! Guest guest
Dear Swami I am grateful for your explanation. Long time I considered the no. 8 as Jiva and Causal Body in Sri Yantra .That Chakra with 8 triangles reprezents Jivatman and secondary Karanasarira-causal body. Because Ajna is the symbol of Jivatman -in Sri Yantra Ajna is double as Jivatman and Causal Body Karanasarira. Similar is with Sahasrara.Sahasrara is Double cakra. which in Sri Yantra is Trikona down pointed and Bindu. In case of Sri Yantra Trikona down pointed is Sahasrara II as "Feemale" element in God (Siva). In this way we have 7 Chakras but also 9 because 6 and 7 -th are doubled. In Love of Sri Lalita Jacek Pollner Additional in Sri Yantra Cakra with 8 triangles reprezents Devi Kali who is "T I M E " as element or principle in the Universe. --- "S.V.SWAMY" <swamy wrote: > Om Sri Matre Namah!
