shrIH,

Namaste,

The following are the different dhyanas of Durga as given the

book Sharada Tilaka, as very popular and authoritative book on

Mantra Shastra.

There are a total of 5 or 6 dhyanas.

The sanskrit verses are from the original text and English

translations from Arthur Avalon's introduction for the same.

1)The following is the dhyana for :Durga:

siMhasthA shashishekharA marakataprakhyaishcaturbhirbhujaiH

shaN^khaM cakradhanuH sharAMshca dadhatI netraistribhiH shobhitA.

AmuktAN^gada hArakaN^kaNa ranatkA~ncIranannUpurA

durgA durgati hAriNI bhavatu vo ratnollasat.h kuNDalA..

May Durga destroy all the evils which beset ye! She has three eyes

and is seated on a lion. On Her forehead is the moon. In Her four

hands which are of the color or emerald, She is holding a

conchshell, a bow, a discus and arrows. She is wearing armlets,

garlands, wrislets , girdles and toe rings with tinkling bells

thereto. Her ear -ornaments are set with brilliant gems.

2)The following verse is the dhyana sholka for :Mahishasura Mardini:

gAruDIphalasannibhAM maNimaulikuNDala maNDitAM

naumi bhAlavilocanAM mahishottamAN^ganiSheduShIm.h.

cakra shaN^kha kR^ipANa kheTaka bANa kArmuka shUlakAn.h

tarjanImapi bibhratIM nijabAhubhiH shashishekharAm.h..

She is of the color of emerald. She has a third eye on Her forehead.

She is adorned with gems on Her head and ears. She is seated on the

head of a buffalo. She is holding a Chakra(Discus), a Shanka(

conchshell), a Kripana (Sword), a Khetaka(Shield), Bana (arrows),

Karmuka(bow), Shula(Spear), and Tarjani Mudra(threatening gasture)

in Her hands. The moon is on Her head. I adore Her.

>From Motilal Banarasidas's publication of Sharada Tilaka.
