Guest guest
I will scan this and put up some jpegs of the English version tonight. - Jami Blakeley Wednesday, November 27, 2002 5:55 PM Linga Puraana Jai Ma! I was wondering if anyone on this list has access to the linga puraana. There is a very important kaalii narrative related there, in I.106, about how maa kaalii slays daaruka aasura and how Her anger is appeased by lord Siva when He assumes the form of an infant. This narrative is summarized in several places, including the Kinsley mahaavidyaa book, but I have never been fortunate enough to read a direct translation of the original. If someone had it and could scan it or type an extract (not knowing how long it is), I am sure that not only I, but also the other members of this group would be deeply grateful. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Dear Aravind & Moderator, I have the book and have found the chapter desired and have scanned it and run it through ocr. However, my concern in posting it has to do with copyright law. I would especially appreciate enlightenment on if I and/or the List will be breaking copyright law by posting it. If there is no problem with doing this, I will be more than happy to post it. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shantih! Guest guest
Jai Maa Mike, my take is that this short a bit of that long a work would constitute fair use and would not pose a problem. Of course, I am not objective, being the desirer of the information. I'm glad you brought this point up in general though, because the internet can run roughshod over copyright rights. Jai Maa --Aravind P.S. In thinking about it, I realized that my non-legal personal ethics rule of thumb test is whether or not the author/artist/creator would not get money as the result of my activity. In this case, the author wouldn't because I couldn't afford to purchase the Linga Purana anyway --- Mike Wisniewski <tamil wrote: > Dear Aravind & Moderator, > > I have the book and have found the chapter desired > and have scanned it and > run it through ocr. > > However, my concern in posting it has to do with > copyright law. > > I would especially appreciate enlightenment on if I > and/or the List will be > breaking copyright law by posting it. Guest guest
Dear Aravind, With the Thanksgiving weekend just ending things have been busy here. I am writing to inquire if you have yet secured the text as another member said they would post. If you have not, I am prepared to send it to you. But I am a bit skiddish about the copyright business as I own the book and I would be breaking it. The publisher clearly states 'any portion whatsoever'. Please pardon me for asking the following, but I need to know if you reside in the US and if you are 18 years or older and have your promise that you would not ever reveal that you got it from me or use it for anything other than your own reading and should there be any legal hassle that you would indemnify me from it. Don't know if we can get this done yet tonight, but I look forward to hearing from you. Om Srimatre Namah! Guest guest
Dear Mike, I definitely understand your skiddishness. So, for the record, I'm a 36 year old American resident. Rest assured that this is purely for my personal devotional use, and that I would never reveal I got it from you. Parenthetically, my interest stems from my intuitive sense that this narrative contains a core truth about how to relate to our Mother Kali. I hope this is not a hassle. I really appreciate your help.
