Guest guest
Friends, "Medha" in Medha Sooktam is "learnedness of high degree". Medha Devi is Saraswati. At the conclusion of the Sooktam, She is prayed for high learning, children, etc. Regards, L Vaidyanathan --- "Shrinivas A. Guest guest
The wod is ayurveda is "medas" the whole problem arises fron writing in english sanskrit words. Medha is as savitri says. It is this again that causes a lot of confusion in sadhana and spiritual instructions and mantras. Guest guest
Just a few additions - There are two verbs from which the word medhaa or intellect can be derived from; mith and meth. 'br^ihaddhaturUpAvali' gives the meaning for both verbs as 'medhaahimsanayoH'. The word medas is derived from the root mid and the meaning given is 'snehane'. We get confused with these two words because the first word medhaa acts as medhas or 's' ending when in a compound. For example 'sumedhaa' is 'aa' ending but 's' ending. The key to distinguishing the two words is to look at which letter is used 'd' or 'dh'. When the former is present, the word means 'fat' one of the dhaatus of the body and when it is the later ('dh') then the meaning is intellect.
