Guest guest
See /message/3762. It refers to a diixitar krti addressing ambaaL as ardhanaariishvarii. Some possible reasons why this feminine form is not popular are: a) According to puraaNa-s, it was Lord shiva, who decided to share one half of his body to ambaaL. Hence, he is called ardhanaariishvara. b) Also from a masculine perspective it is correct to call "half- woman" man. It is not so reasonable to call "Half-woman" woman. Even though it is technically correct. Probably, ardhapUmishhvarii (or ardhapurushheshvarii) would more appropriate. To make this clear, we do not call Him ardhapUmiishvara. c) Shiva is most of his forms is ardhanaarii. ambaaL is not so (explicitly) [see d] d) ambaaL will not like to say that half of HER body is shiva. As a mahaapativrata HER entire being belongs to HER husband shiva and SHE would not like to even think as "this part of mine is not Lord shiva". Even in this world, it is men who give part of themselves to their wife, and most pativrata-s do not hold back anything and they give themselves entirely to their husbands. If you address them shivaabhyAm, you escape this gender problem. Om shivaabhyannamaH My 2c.
