Pardon me. Its not oil from the dried flower. The flower petals are fried in oil over a slow fire. This oil promotes good growth of hair and keeps them healthy. It also enhances the colour of the hair. Furthermore it is considered to be a coolant. The flower, Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis is the commonest species seen now. It is the 'japaa kusumam' and in Tamil it is 'semparaththam puu'. It is not 'semparuththi' as people mistakenly call it. 'Semparuththi' is a different species. It should be noted that the dhyaana sloka for Suurya, mentions, 'japaa kusuma shankaasham kaashyapEyam....'. In one of the dhyaana slokas of SrI Lalitha, it mentions, 'japaa kusumabhaasuraam japavidhau smarEdhambikaam'.
