Guest guest
Dear sir, Thanks for your question . this was precisely the same doubt i had , since i am a devotee/disciple of Ammachi (Amma, Sree Mata Amritanandamayi) and have attended Her programs where Amma conducts Lalitha Sahasranama archanas. My answer to this is twofold: FIRST:- no sincere prayer goes in vain. Amma says that all who take refuge in the Divine Mother will find eternal protection in Her infinite Love. The Mother looks only at the heart and one's attitude of devotion and is ever ready to guide sincere devotees back to Her Lotus feet- provided their bhakti is innocent and pure. SECOND: This does not mean that traditional rules are wrong or unnecessary. Sometimes, Mahatmas, according to the need of the age, do prescribe different practices for the masses which may ( VERY RARELY) deviate from exact tradition. In this case the SatGuru Himself/Herself accepts the responsibility of the disciple. The term SatGuru , of course, only applies to a Self Realized Mahatma. The Satguru is one who has completely merged in the Supreme Self within. All actions and words of such a SatGuru come directly from The Divine Within. There is not even a trace of ego in the SatGuru. He/She is completely filled , permeated , dissolved in Supreme Conciousness . Such a SatGuru who has irrevocably merged in the Supreme, is verily the Lord in manifestation . Brahmavid Brahmaiva bhavathi , the scriptures declare. Such a SatGuru acts spontaneously inspired by the Lord within always. He/She knows what is needed for each individual, and the society at a given time. They alone can prescribe rules and sometimes seem to change them- but if you see carefully there also they would not be going against the time tested vedic statements- in case of Amma's Lalitha Sahasranama archanas for instance, i have faith that She assumes responsibilty of those who come to Her and follow Her instructions. Such a Guru knows what karma the individual still has left, what the correct path for the devotee is- and is capable of even removing the disciples' karma. Sometimes The SatGuru in supreme compassion actually takes on the karma of the devotees Herself , and suffers the consequences of any mistakes the devotee may do while doing sadhana. But this of course depends upon the maturity and sincerity of the disciple. Such a Guru is indeed the manifestation of the 'Sadaa Shiva' principle of Ambaal Herself. Moreover the Great Gurus may give different prescriptions for different people . I have been blessed by having Amma in my life for sometime now and i have come across the same Amma who encourages people to do the Sahasranama also decline to give a young man the Sri Vidya mantra because he was not ready for it. I have also heard that that Amma asked a person i know to stop doing a particular homa because he was not prounouncing the words correctly. So it all depends upon one's bhavana and the Guru's instructions. But i am happy you attended Ammachi's Lalitha Sahasranama archana. It is a great blessing to be able to have the Darshan of a Mahatma like Amma ... Ambaal Herself will guide everyone to the Guru. This is what i understand. May Ambaal forive me for any errors in my statements.
